Black parts return too little signal

Dark plastics, rubber, carbon fibre, matte black coatings — sparse, noisy or absent

Root cause:Low reflectance LUC-VISION™

Why it fails, and why we are not bound by it

Matte black surfaces can reflect only a few percent, one to two orders of magnitude less than light ones, and intensity-based methods lose signal-to-noise quickly. In coherent detection the signal amplitude scales with the product of return and local-oscillator amplitudes, and the local oscillator power is ours to set — so dark and light parts can be captured with one set of parameters.
