Why LUC-VISION™

Depth on Every Surface Type

Structured light projects a pattern onto a surface and reads how the pattern deforms. Stereo cameras match texture. Both methods assume that the surface scatters light back.

Mirror-finish metal reflects the pattern away. Glass lets the light pass through. Dark plastic returns almost no signal. In a bin, reflections between parts also create surfaces that do not exist.

LUC-VISION™ measures depth with FMCW coherent ranging. It uses the frequency difference between the return and the local oscillator, not the scattered light. A mirror or matte finish, with or without texture, does not decide whether the sensor gets depth.

Reflective and dark surfaces have published scans. For transparent parts, ship us a sample for evaluation.

Processing latency excludes the 2.5 s acquisition time. Valid point counts depend on the scene. Precision is the median normal 1σ from offline validation at approximately 0.83 m on a 10% diffuse target. It is distinct from absolute range error. Dimensions exclude plugs and cables.

Applications

Mixed-material sorting: Metal, glass and dark plastic in the same bin.

Electronics inspection: Reflective solder joints and metal housings are the parts on which structured light fails most often.

Service robots: Glass doors and stainless steel surfaces stop being blind spots.
