What makes it hard

A bronze surface mixes bare metal with oxidation: reflective copper in places, light-absorbing patina in others, with reflectance varying widely across a single object. Structured light needs multiple exposures fused together, which is slow and error-prone at the boundaries.

Heritage digitization adds a hard constraint: no contact, no coating. That rules out both contact scanning and developer sprays.

What we measured

The capture covers the vessel body, rim and flanges. 960,420 raw points.

Note the fine ornament on the body — depth variation of a few tenths of a millimeter, and exactly the information heritage digitization most needs to preserve. Reflective and patinated regions produced consistent depth in a single pass, with no zone-by-zone treatment.
