What makes it hard
A bronze surface mixes bare metal with oxidation. Some areas are reflective copper and others are light-absorbing patina, so reflectance varies widely across one object. Structured light must fuse multiple exposures. This is slow, and errors occur easily at the boundaries.
Heritage digitization adds a hard constraint: no contact, no coating. This excludes both contact scanning and developer sprays.
What we measured
The capture covers the vessel body, rim and flanges. 960,420 raw points.
Note the fine ornament on the body. Its depth varies by only a few tenths of a millimeter, and heritage digitization most needs to preserve exactly this information. Reflective and patinated regions gave consistent depth in a single pass, with no zone-by-zone treatment.
