What makes it hard

Fur is a classic problem in 3D reconstruction. Each fiber is far smaller than the spatial resolution of the sensor. The surface therefore has no well-defined depth, only a fuzzy statistical layer. Heavily saturated dyes also weaken the return in parts of the spectrum.

What we measured

674,633 raw points. Fur regions appear as a layer with thickness. This is the real optical behavior of fur, not a capture failure. Hard structures such as the eyes and seams keep sharp boundaries.
