What makes it hard
Fur is a classic problem in 3D reconstruction: every fiber is far below the sensor’s spatial resolution, so the surface has no well-defined depth — only a statistically fuzzy layer. Heavily saturated dyes further weaken the return in parts of the spectrum.
What we measured
674,633 raw points. Fur regions appear as a layer with thickness — that is the real optical behavior of fur, not a capture failure — while hard structures such as the eyes and seams stay crisply bounded.
Plush toy
RGBD capture of fur, contrasting the fuzzy layer with hard structure.
